Reality??? What is reality? How do we not know that what we see is actually what we see. For example: a tree has a trunk and leaves and branches to the human eye, but let's say other species see it as a rock. I know it sounds wierd but think about.
How about a Boot Camp reality show for the presidential candidates? They do want to be commander-in-chief, so they should be better able to make and understand military decisions if they can win in the Boot Camp reality show. They would remain civilians the entire time, so we would not compromise the intent for establishing a civilian commander-in-chief as President. This is where words turn into action, boring debates turn into entertaining and revealing action, and reality proves the winner. I'm talking about real life, authentic, practicality.
What is consciousness and what is reality? Is awareness the origin of perception, or the origin of existance? Mystics like Jesus, Buddha, and Lao Tzu, as well as modern physics, seem to state that everything in existance is simply the motion of energy at different levels relative to each other, all being part of the whole. However, one pervading concept endures: the awareness of awareness, consciousness. Is this phenomenon the root of existance, or merely an effect of it? Why is everything in motion, if that is the case, instead of being at rest and therefore non-relational, or absolute (Nothingness)? Is reality the result of awareness, or is awareness the result of reality?
What are some good websites about reality tv? I am doing my research paper on how reality tv affects society, and I am having trouble finding sources! Does anybody know of good websites with articles or something about reality tv?
How do you escape from reality when it becomes too much to bear? Great for the Body and mind.....Love, Meditation, Religion, God, Hobbies, Sex, Reading. Harmful to the body options......Suicide, Alcohol, Drugs, Mental Illness (Depression, Anxiety, Schizophrenia), obsessions, unprotected sex. Are there people who deal with it head on without feeling the need to escape reality ever?!!! I can not pretend that everything is ok when it isn't. People say that I am immature.
What are really good alternate reality/apocalyptic books? Books like The Road and Farenheit 451 are the kinds of alternate reality/apocalyptic/future scenario books I really like. If you could suggest some more with title and author that would be greatly appreciated. Please no Harry Potter or other fairy tale type books. Thanks everyone.
How do we know reality is truly reality? How do we know that people aren't simply a figment of our imagination, and that reality is truly reality? I saw the movie inception and it got me thinking. Is everything we believe to be not truly what it is? Do you understand my point?
How do people get on reality shows and game shows? I've always wondered how people get on these reality shows and game shows. Is there a website you complete an application on. Has anyone ever been on one and can share their experience or the process?
What dream would you turn to reality if you could ? I would make peace on earth reality if I could. Don't you think war is stupid ? Aren't we supposed to be preparing for a black hole or a huge asteroid colliding with earth? Not trying to kill each each other ? Humans greed could wipe us out.
How come physist tend to forget that reality start with how our minds work? Every show and everthing I read about physics tend to put a subjective definition of reality on the the laws of physics. Dont we really nead to understand the workings of our brain and mind to understand the universe? Also, I've always been taught that science only looks for the what, where, when and how. There is no 'why' in science, but wont we come to a point when we may have to consider a 'why'. Can I get a physist or neurologist to anwer this question because people answering it dont get it?
How does our subjective picture of reality differ from the objective reality? How accurate are the senses at creating a picture of the 'external' objective reality. The senses receive all this information from the environment, which is turned into a meaningful picture in the brain, how close is this picture to what is actually out there in the world of matter? Since our brain is mainly designed to survive on this tiny planet, how can we ever come to know an objective reality when all the knowledge we gain comes through the subjective perspective of the human brain?
What do you think about children being taught the difference between dogma and reality? To rational adults (not religious people), the difference between dogma and reality is quite obvious. But to children who still believe in Santa, God and the Tooth Fairy, the difference between dogma and reality is not easy to determine. Children rely on adults to teach them about reality but if adults are teaching children about Santa, God and the Tooth Fairy, then this can’t be doing them any good, right?
How do I make my fantasy a reality? I have always dreamt of knowing the joy of childbirth. Alas, I am male. It's not a fetish, i just think it's unfair that I can't. Are there any virtual reality things out there or something?
How come Vh1 keeps getting pornstars and strippers in their reality show? I notice there are quite a few female contestants on those realisty shows that have either done porn or stripping; For instance, Cali from l love money 2 and Real chance of Love did some hardcore porn before being on the reality show. Nothing wrong with that really, but I miss the days of old when reality shows had real people instead of oversexual strippers and frat dudes It is because of ratings?
Can dogs tell the difference between dreams and reality? I love my dog and I never treat her badly. But sometimes after she's woken up after being asleep she looks at me and gets really sheepish and goes and hides in a corner as if I've just beaten her to death. I can't think of any reason why she would do that so I was just wondering if dogs can't tell the difference between dreams and reality? Thanks :-)
How Do You Differentiate Between Fantasy And Reality? How do you differentiate between reality and fantasy? Because to my point of view Reality is Materialistic Fantasy and Fantasy is Etherical Reality. So exactly how do we differentiate it? If you ppl are talking bout mystic creatures and us, how do you know they aren.t real? Just like the mermaid, no one ever gone to the bottom of the deepest ocean and no one knows what is there so why the conclusion that mermaid does not exist? The same goes with unicorns, if bibles and ancient texts say that there were unicorns so why not now in order for you to believe so? characters in the book would think like i do cos how do you know they aren't real? like mona lisa is she real or not? some say she is some say no......
What is the difference between fantasy and reality? What I'm looking for is: 1- How would you define fantasy and reality? 2- On average, does any idea considered fantasy mean that the idea will never come true? 3- Is their any chance that a person becomes so attached to fantasy that the person loses track of reality? 4- Why do you think so many children magical fantasy books are controversial? Is it because many believe that children can lose track of reality? 5- Why do you think many people are drawn to fantasies? Thanks!
How to identify the loss of a sense of reality, in a Boderline personality disorder ? He is extremely violent and unable to control his anger. He cut his wrist 2 times (not deep but still it happened within the same month). Don't know how to recognize this symptom though. I must be able to notice how he behaves when he really looses sense of reality. Its almost next to impossible to take him to a psychiatrist so please help me with this.
How can I enter a different reality? I heard that people can enter different realities or drag things out from a dif reality. Is it true or fake? If its true, can some one tell me how?
How many people have grandparents with out a grasp on reality? I think there are some important factors involved in a well rounded education. What year did you graduate HS? Get a degree? And time spent in the field of study? All these things tend to improve a grasp on reality. The further from each the worse one becomes. At 65, 72, 84 and finally 95 I witnessed this trait in my own grandfather. It is harder to see in others.
At what age do children start to differentiate myth and reality? We're all taught myths as children as a means of providing explanations for things we don't have a hope of understanding due to our level of cognitive development. Things such as creation myths, for example, help parents answer their kid's questions without requiring the child to first go to college. ;) So... At what age do we start to have the cognitive abilities necessary to understand the myth/reality dichotomy? I'm particularly interested in published studies of children that are relevant to this question. Thanks!
What do you think of scripted reality shows? They shouldn't even call them reality shows then! I'm a huge fan of Big Brother, The Amazing Race, and Survivor. I really hope they aren't scripted. I heard from someone that the final 3 in Survivor will be Russell, Parvati, and Sandra. Sandra will be the winner. He claims he got the info from a spoilers site. I already know that the diary room sessions in BB are scripted, but it really ruins the definition of reality shows if scripts are involved. Your thoughts?
Do you think reality TV has contributed to the lack of shame in society? It is as if people have become attention whores. They allow entertainment corporations to pay them and film their daily lives. But the producers create an artificial world for them and give them a script to follow. And we are told it is reality TV. And many of the things these people do on these shows is shameful. It is as if the public gets pleasure out of watching people behave in an immoral manner.
What is the fate of organized religion in the face of reality? In the modern (real) world, woman are not expected to remain silent and subservient and can in fact be leaders, gays are not inherently sinners, dinosaurs did in fact rule the world for millions of years, there may be sentient life on other planets, and slavery is an affront to humanity. How long can the traditional churches possibly continue to try to reconcile their scriptural beliefs with the reality all around them?
How do we know that our human perception of reality corresponds to reality itself? This is the most startling question I've ever encountered from a philosopher (Immanuel Kant) and I was wondering what you all thought. Kant's argument is that we have no basis to assume that our perception of reality ever resembles reality itself. What if all we have is the experience; only copies, but never the originals... and what if those copies only come to us through the medium of our senses, while the originals exist independently of our means of perceiving them.
In what ways does our sensory ability constrain or construct our understanding of reality? Weak formulation: brain fills in gaps in our perception to offer continuous stream of sensory data from reality. Strong interpretation of sensory construction of reality: our perceptions absolutely structure reality. The latter is more speculative, philosophical; it is an idea I find remarkable, but quite frankly absurd. I want to know if there is any possibility of humans altering their brains and, consequentially, seeing different parts of reality. I assume that is possible if our perceptions structure reality absolutely. Further, I understand there is a connection between our sensations and reality, but I believe our sensory abilities are the gateway to reality- a reality that exists independently of us- and so those sensory abilities slightly filter reality but do not construct it. I am interested in knowing if it is a tenable claim that our senses structure reality absolutely. Is this discussion at all relevant to the modern neurosciences or is it antiquated philosophy?
Do the camera crew on reality survival shows go through the same as the stars? On nature/adventure reality television shows (such as Out-Wild on Discovery Channel) where the people are dropped into the wild and are supposed to survive on their own, what about the cameramen/crew? Are they subjected to the same difficulties? Do they leave on helicopters every night? Do they drive alongside and set up a nicer camp nearby? How does this work (assuming it's not staged)?
How can I find a balance between my happiness and reality? I am happiest when my head is buried in some book or movie. I'm happy when I'm alone or with animals, around flowers, making music etc. I like living in my own world. People have accused me of "trying to avoid reality". Honestly, they're right. I don't like reality. I'm miserable when I'm surrounded by people and talking about things like politics, the economy etc. I don't think I'm a weak person. I can handle reality (sometimes) I just prefer not too.
What problem needs further research to make a spinach powered battery a reality? What problem needs further research to make a spinach powered battery a reality? A. The spinach battery does not last for extended lengths of time. B. The researchers can't determine how to involve water in an electronic system. C. Other plant choices have to be examined for their effectiveness. D. There doesn't appear to be enough electricity produced to drive small electronic devices.
Everyone's reality is different, so how can your line between reality and fiction be defined by someone else? Many people want to blame other people for not living in reality. But everyone's reality is different. So how can someone else tell you that you are not living in reality, when they don't know your reality? Such as outside people who have no knowledge of your reality or situations. W.Kins, but that's more of testing someone's delusions. I'm referring to the arguments against the realities of someone else like as though you know their life better than they do, even though you've never met them.
How can I make this a reality without spending money? I'm a 24 year old female . every morning I want to wake up rested and beautiful in a beautiful room. i want to spend a few moments admiring my flawless body. and when I have to go somewhere I want to reach into a beautiful closet and find a beautiful outfit that perfect for the occassion. Alas, this not my reality it's about the opposite of that. How can I make this my reailty without spending a dime?
who is the philosopher who said reality is created by the devil to fool mankind? I've read it in a book that an ancient philosopher said that reality is created by the devil to fool people into believing what is illusionary is real by manipulating their 5 senses. But the philosopher said a soul however, exist because one needs to be consciously existing to be fooled by the devil, if the self is non existing, there is nothing to fool. does anyone know the name of this philosopher?? I forgot his name and also forgot the source I got it from. Thanks!
What is a negative effect of reality tv on society? I'm doing a presentation on why reality tv should be banned and I need 3 reasons on why it should be banned. I have two good ones and one really weak one (lowers society's values). If you can help me with some information on that one it would be great or if you can tell me a different one it would be great too!
How much money do creators of a reality television show make? I have an idea for a reality show. If I were to give the idea to fox, tbs, ect. then would I get a percentage of the shows earnings every season or just get paid like 50000 for the idea and thats it. Or, would I be given money to make the show and then be payed following that.
Why do some people live in a false reality? Perception is not the same as reality. For me, reality is what is happening at this moment and what is truthfully recorded as history. I believe that many people rationalize events in their respective lives in an attempt to be OK with things in their life. This is not reality but more of a justification for their actions, in my opinion. I guess it's kind of like a person that steals a candy bar believing that the action hurts no person and trying to justify the action by stating that the owner has money and will never miss the candy bar. Or, the single mother who believes it is the State, Country, or charities responsibility to help provide for the child she cannot provide food, clothing and other essentials. I doubt that she could ever be convinced that the child is her responsibility and if she could not afford to care for the child she should not have gotten pregnant. In my opinion, this is a false reality.
What couples have gotten divorced after their reality show? I was thinking that a lot of the couples that do reality shows about their marriage often break up afterwards. I could only think of a few: Hulk Hogan and his wife, Carmen Electra and Dave Navarro, Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey. Any others? What about those that didn't breakup? I thought of the Osbornes, Rob and Amber from Survivor.
What if we all have our own separate reality? What if everything that exists only appears that way to you? As you read this question, you may see it as an entirely different question, and you may respond to that question, but I'll see it as the answer to the question I thought I asked, because that's part of my reality. What if all the crazy people are actually sane?
What would it take to create the perfect virtual reality? I know this is all hypothetical, but what would it take to make a completely realistic virtual world? Like the kind in the movies and video games. Where the person inside can't even detect that what they're experiencing isn't real. For example, you'd have to block all sensory input to the brain and replace it with sensory input from the virtual environment. Then figure out someway to hook up motor output functions to the device so that it would appear that you could maneuver through the reality. What else would it take? Any ideas?
Do humans create an unchanging reality to make up for the constant change in every day life? In other words, belief systems are intangible yet stable and unchanging for individuals who allow themselves to engage in constantly reminding themselves of the pseudo-reality. If you think this to be true, then where does this need come from and what are we filling with this false creation? Are we escaping reality? As well, could we be so caught up in a belief that we are inhibiting ourselves to function fully within this physical world?
